AI Chat

Use the built-in AI assistant to search, create, and manage data across your workspace

Metadot includes an AI-powered chat assistant that can help you work with your workspace data using natural language. Ask questions, look up records, and create items — all from a single conversation panel.

Opening AI Chat

Use the keyboard shortcut ⌘ Shift L (Mac) or Ctrl Shift L (Windows/Linux) to toggle the chat panel. It slides in from the right side of the screen.

You can also click the New Chat button at the top of the panel to start a fresh conversation.

What You Can Do

The assistant has access to data across all modules in your workspace:

Search and look up records

  • Tickets — "Show me open tickets assigned to me"
  • CRM — "Find contacts at Acme Corp", "List deals in the negotiation stage"
  • Assets — "Search for laptops", "Show overdue checkouts"
  • Projects & Tasks — "List all projects", "What tasks are due this week?"
  • Inventory — "Search for items low in stock"
  • Knowledge Base — "Find articles about onboarding"
  • Suppliers — "Show suppliers in the software category"
  • BookMe — "List upcoming bookings", "Show my calendars"
  • Stackr Project — "Show boards", "Find cards assigned to me"
  • Polls — "List active polls", "Show results for the team survey"
  • InvoiceMe — "Show unpaid invoices", "List invoices due soon"
  • Changelog — "Search changelog entries about the new feature"

Create and update records

The assistant can also create and modify data for you:

  • Create tickets, tasks, contacts, opportunities, and more
  • Update ticket status, priority, or assignee
  • Move opportunities between pipeline stages
  • Bulk create multiple items at once (e.g., "Create 5 tickets for...")

Tool Approvals

When the assistant needs to write or modify data (create, update, delete), it will ask for your approval before proceeding. You'll see a summary of the action and can choose to:

  • Approve — Let the assistant proceed with the action
  • Deny — Cancel the action and continue the conversation

Read-only operations (searching, listing, looking up records) happen automatically without needing approval.

Voice Input

Click the microphone icon in the chat input to dictate your message using your device's speech recognition. Click again to stop recording. Your speech is transcribed into text that you can review before sending.

Tips

  • Be specific — "Show open tickets with high priority" works better than "Show tickets"
  • Use natural language — The assistant understands everyday phrasing, not just commands
  • Bulk actions — When creating 3 or more items, the assistant will group them into a single bulk operation
  • Ticket numbers — Reference tickets by number (e.g., "Update ticket #42")
  • Start fresh — Click New Chat to clear the conversation and start over

Suggested Questions

When you first open the chat, you'll see suggested questions to help you get started:

  • Show me open tickets
  • Find contacts at Acme
  • List all projects
  • Search for assets

Click any suggestion to send it as your first message.
